Verne Kimmel, 18-year old son of Mr. & Mrs. George Kimmel, of Madison township, died last Saturday in St. Mary's Hospital at Decatur. His death was due to an accidental discharge of a target rifle, the bullet entering his abdomen. The accident happened last Thursday. The young man was visiting his uncle, Will Kimmel, at Atwood, and had been employed by a neighbor to drive a mower in the hay harvest. He took the target rifle with him and it accidentally fell off the mower and was discharged. he was rushed to the hospital, but the wound was so serious that an operation could not save his life. The body was brought to his parents' home Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at Elbow with burial in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
