Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Condon, 100, La Porte, died Saturday (Nov. 28, 2009) at La Porte Hospital.

She was born Feb. 13, 1909, in La Porte County, the daughter of Harry and Malinda (Murdock) Smith, and has lived in the La Porte area all of her life.

Mildred was a member of the First United Methodist Church; past president and 75-year member of the East Galena County Home Economics Club; and a 75-year member of the La Porte County Home Economic Extension Organization. Millie loved crocheting and quilting. During the holiday season she made large amounts of peanut brittle and distributed it all over town. She liked volunteering wherever she was needed, and spent countless hours preparing meals at the church and doing other work for the church.

On Nov. 9, 1929, in La Porte she married William W. Condon, who preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1978.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Robert) Christ, La Porte; three grandchildren, Rob (Nancy) Christ, Cindy (Mike) Corbett and Kelly (Brooke) Christ, all of La Porte; four great-grandchildren, Jake (Kristen) Corsbie, Kenosha, Wis., Erin Christ, La Porte, Adam Christ, Maryland, and Chloe Christ, La Porte; two step-great-grandsons, Bert Corbett, Florida, and Kevin Corbett, La Porte; one great-great-grandchild, Haley Corsbie, Kenosha; one niece and one nephew.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Lorenzo Smith, and sister Doris Wurst.

Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service Wednesday. The Rev. Evan Lash will officiate. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, La Porte.
