"STEVEN POINT DAILY JOURNAL, Saturday, May 17, 1924, Page 3: Passing of Another Pioneer
Mrs. Sarah Gustin, a resident of this vicinity for 74 years, when she came from the east with other members of the Bentley family and settled on a homestead near Plainfield, passed from earth at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, her death occurring at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. W. Alvord, 621 Ellis street, this city. Mrs. Gustin enjoyed good health until last January, when she suffered a paralytic stroke and was laid up several weeks. She almost fully recovered from this affliction but the infirmities of age eventually caused her demise.
Sarah Bentley, the maiden name of the deceased, was born in Tioga county, Pennsylvania, 82 years ago _ 20th of next June. When she was eight years of age the family moved to Wisconsin and located in the then unbroken wilderness of what is now western Waushara county. Miss Bentley was married here to Hatfield V. Gustin and continued to make that district her home until 12 years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Gustin moved to Stevens Point. The husband passed away here in 1916.
Besides Mrs. Alvord, there is one son, George Gustin of this city; two grandchildren, Arthur Stevens of Wild Rose and Mrs. Carl Landa of Stevens Point; one greatgranchild and a sister and brothers, Mrs. M. W. Rozell and John W. Bentley of Plainfield.
The funeral cortege will leave the Alvord home at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon and drive to Campbell's Corners, where services will be conducted at the Plainfield town hall by Rev. James Blake. Interment follows in the nearby cemetery.
Mrs. Rozell and Mr. Bentley are the only survivors of a family of 5 children."
