Son of immigrants from County Down, Ireland, George McMeekin lived most of his years in the Shelby, Nebraska area while owning and managing 12 farms in Nebraska and the Dakotas. He loved to read and was known for Deep Sea fishing off the coast of Galveston, TX. A gardener, he maintained two greenhouses in his back yard during retirement.
He married Mabel Claire Ball on 12 Feb 1908. To this union was born six children:
