Jay Smith, 62, died Friday at the Roosevelt LDS Hospital, of a coronary occlusion.
He was born January 1, 1895 at Rifle, colo. a son of Roseland Joseph and Prima Smith. He received his early education there. The family later moved to Vernal. May 6, 1918, he married Lena Rosa at Glenwood Springs, and brought her to the Uintah Basin, living on a ranch in the Dry Gulch area. They later moved to a small farm a few miles west of town. Poor health forced him to retire in 1945, at which time he purchased a home here and moved his family to Myton, where they have since resided. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion, Wm. R. Sands Post No. 5 of Myton.

Survivors are his widow, 4 daughters and 1 son; Ardith Smith, Mrs. Lloyd (Alice) Fenn, of Myton; Mrs. Robert (Prena) Hayes; Mrs. Bud (Lucille) Olsen, and Kenneth Smith all of Salt Lake; eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Walker, Salt Lake; two half-sisters, Mrs. Eunice Brennick, California and Mrs. Wanda Abplanalp, Helper; two half-brothers, Cleve Barnett, Grand Junction Colo. and Steve Barnett, Rifle, Colo.
Interment was in the Myton City cemetery.
