David Henry Arnold, named for his father and uncles, was the third and youngest son of David Arnold and Delilah Decker. He was born in a story and a half clapboard house near Birmingham, Guernsey Co., Ohio. He moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Freeport close to the now defunct hamlet of Tariff. He married at the Pleasant Mount Methodist Church near there on November 23, 1898 to Miss Jennie Clarissa Moore. They lived on two rented farms before buying their own place at Smyrna in 1905. His brother, Chris, lived on the adjoining farm and his unmarried sisters and father lived across the road. He was the President of the Grange and Sunday School Superintendent at the Smyrna M.E. Church. David was the father of Edith (Kirk), Verna (Hefling), Lena D. (Wilson), Oscar Moore, Frances L. (Reynolds), and Esther (Milliken). David died at home after a prolonged bout of influenza and pneumonia.
