Obituary:

Bertha Ellen Stevens was born near Walnut City, Iowa, January 7, 1878, died at Exline, Iowa July 7, 1914, aged 35 years, 6 months and 25 days.

When about twelve years of age, her parents located on a farm near Exline and in this community she grew to womanhood and here she lived her life.

On March 28, 1900 she was married to A. Philip Cline of Exline. To this union two children were born. Ruby Pearl, who died August 21, 1903 at the age of two and one-half years. The second little one went home with its mother.

She leaves a husband, mother, five brothers and one sister, besides many other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Her brothers are: Rev. Chas. F Stevens of Beatrice, NE, Harvey E. of Centerville, Orin and Calvin of Exline and Pearl R. of Dexter, Iowa and the sister is Mrs. Sadie Friel, of Exline, all of whom were able to be present at the funeral.

The funeral services were held at the Christian Church at Exline, Saturday morning, July 14th, at 10 o'clock, conducted by her minister, Reverend J. Wesley.

Bertha united with The Christian Church at Exline when fifteen years of age and developed into a high type of Christian womanhood. In disposition, she was quiet, modest and unassuming, mild and tender. She loved her home and was perfectly devoted to it interests. She died as she had lived, in the Christian faith with all its hopes and assurances.
