She was born December 19, 1913, to John L. and Dollie Mae (Robinson) Holscher in Morris County, Kansas. She attended Alta Vista (KS) High School and graduated from Council Grove High School with the class of 1933. She married Thomas Newcomb on December 25, 1937, in Alta Vista, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2007. They lived on a farm in Northeast Morris County until October 1997, when they moved to Council Grove.
Marie had been an active member of Home Economics units, and an active worker for the American Red Cross drive. She served as President and Secretary of the Alumni meeting of Fairview #33 School, for 10 years. She attended the Emanuel Methodist Church, of rural Alta Vista.
She enjoyed flowers, plants, working in her vegetable garden and canning. She dearly loved spending time with her family and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas, son, James Newcomb, brothers, Edgar Holscher, John Holscher, Jr. and Glenn Holscher, and sisters, Laura Belle Holscher, Pauline Cheek and Clara Ruth Bavender.
She is survived by a daughter, Luella Auchard and husband Gary, of Perry, GA; daughter-in-law, Leona Newcomb, of Strong City, KS; 3 brothers, Floyd Holscher, Leo Holscher, and Clyde Holscher; 2 sisters, Katherine Slusher and Bernice Fowler; 2 step grandsons, 4 step great grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel, with Pastor Ralph G. Braun officiating. Marie will lie in state from 9:00 – 11:00 before the service. A private family interment will follow at Four Mile Cemetery.
