GUTHRIE WHITE KING
Guthrie White King was born April 25, 1874 at Carbon, Adams County, Iowa and passed away Wednesday, March 9, 1960 at the Odd Fellow Home in Mason City, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Gebbie, January 2, 1898 and to this union three children were bon, a son, Floyd who died in infancy, and a daughter, Gladys, who died at the age of 10 years, and a son, Howard, now living in Peoria, Illinois. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. F. B. Barker of Oakville, Manitoba, Canada and one brother, Howard of Alvin, Texas. He was preceded in death by Mrs. King, who passed away January 15, 1952.
He lived near Corning, Adams County, Iowa for 43 years and 35 years were spent in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa and had been a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for 50 years and more. His door was always open to everybody and he would give his last cent to someone in need. In addition to rearing their own children, they reared those of some of the other members of the family.
Services were held Friday, March 11, 1960 at 1:30 P.M. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, Adams County, Iowa, with Rev. Brown Garlock officiating. Music was by Mrs. Esther Roland and Mrs. Eva Elmore. Pallbearers were Frank Gebbie, Robert Gebbie Jr., Ivan Reese, Lyman Hoselton, Don Gebbie, and John Hunter. Interment was in Quincy Cemetery, Adams County, Iowa.
