Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension

County of Vermilion } ss, On this 3rd day of June A.D. 1881, personally appeared before me Clerk of the Circuit Court a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Benjamin R. Hester aged 48 years, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Benjamin R. Hester who was enrolled on the 28th day of August 1862, in Company "A" of the 79 Regiment of Ill Vol Infty as private and was honorably Discharged on the 23 day of June 1865; that his personal description is as follows: Age 48 years; height 5 feet 8 in.; complexion light; hair; dark;. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of his duty, on or about the 10th day of July 1864, he Received a 'Sun Stroke, while in his march from Roswell Factory to Vining Station, GA- by becoming overheated from hard marching through the heat of the day. Was treated for same by Reg. Surgeon Thos. J. Wheeler at the time.
That he has not been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above since the the 23rd day of June 1865. That since leaving the service, the applicant has resided in the vicinity of Ridge Farm in the State of Ills, and his occupation has been that of a farmer. That prior to his entry into the service above named, he was a man of good, sound, physical being when enrolled a farmer. That he is now partly disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor, by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States.
