Widow's Application for Pension
State of Illinois, County of Vermilion }ss.
On this 5th day of January A.D. 1899, before me, a notary Public of the County of Vermilion within and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Margaret P. Hester aged about 64 years, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declarations in order to obtain the pension provided for by Acts of Congress granting pension to widows:
That I am the widow of Benjamin R. Hester who died at Ridge Farm Illinois on the 1st day of January A.D. 1899 of Chronic Spinal Meningitis Superinduced by sunstroke which I believe to have originated while he belonged to Company A 79th Regiment of Illinois Vols. About fall or winter of 1864 Ressacca, GA.
That I was married under the name of Margaret P. Cunningham to my said husband on or about 19 day of May 1853 by Allen McClain Esq at Edgar County Illinois, there being no legal barrier to such marriage;
That Neither myself nor said Benjamin R. Hester had been previously married.
That I have remained his widow to the present date and am now his widow.
I had no children under 16 years of age.
That I did not engage in, or aid or abet the late rebellion against the authority of the United States.
That I have not hereto fore applied for a pension my husband drew pension under certificate 246,440
That my residence is Ridge Farm, Ill and my post-office address is Ridge Farm, Ill
