daughter of Jesse E. and Margaret E. Clardy

Both Jesse and Margaret had children from previous marriages in addition to the four they had together, Maggie and her three brothers. The earliest available document of Maggie's birth is the 1900 census which indicates August of 1881.

Maggie Clardy married Stephen Joshua Cheek on 27 February 1898 in Ellis County, Texas, with whom she had three sons, the youngest in 1909. By 1910 they were divorced and Maggie was living in Jack County with her mother. Her two oldest sons, Jesse and John, were living with their father in Ellis County, but one-year-old Steve was with Maggie. She bought 50 acres of land in 1910 and sold the land in 1911.

Not long after the 1910 census was taken Maggie married William Andrew Miller who would raise Steve as his own even after Maggie died in 1912.

Joe Clardy, son of Maggie's brother Bob, recalled taking his father to visit relatives in Jack County. Joe referred to Maggie as 'Meg Cheek' and must have copied his older relatives in doing so as Joe was not born until 1915.
