SPENCER GLASPELL, WELL KNOWN BOND MERCHANT OF CITY, IS SUMMONED TODAY
Spencer Grinnell Glaspell, 40, a member of the bond firm of Glaspell, Vieth and Duncan since 1929 died at Mercy Hospital at noon today. Mr. Glaspell, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Trinity Lodge 208 A.F. & A. M., Zarepath Consistory and Kasbah Temple Shrine, was widely known in the business and social circles, and his death comes as an unexpected shock.

Death followed an operation performed several days ago, the immediate cause being cardiac embolism, the forming of a blood clot which moves through the veins back to the heart causing almost instant death.

Mr. Glaspell was born May 30th, 1891 in Davenport, and after attending the Davenport public schools and high school, entered the employ of the White-Phillips bond firm.

He married [Esther] Hazel Crissman, November 26, 1914 in Davenport. Following his work for the White-Phillips company he started in the bond business forming the present firm in 1929.

They lived at 611 Vine St., Davenport and adopted 3 children:

Donald Keith Glaspell b 3 Aug 1924, m 8 Sep 1952 Rodean Hengie

Mr. Glaspell was regarded as one of the outstanding men in his profession. In the interest of the company of which he was the head, he traveled extensively in those parts of the country whose bonds were offered to the company's clientele. His word was practically a guarantee in the opinion of those who knew him, of the value of any investment, so thoroughly we he informed on all matters pertaining to his business and so careful was he in his representations as to the value of securities.

Surviving besides the widow are three children, Allen, Donald and Janice Glaspell at home, one sister, Mrs. B. F. (Elsie) Spry of Des Moines, and two brothers, C. F. Glaspell of South Pasedena, CA and Albert Glaspell of Davenport.
