PRESQUE ISLE - Leopold Charette, 78, passed away Wednesday April 21, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Leopold was born May 29, 1931, in Fort Kent, the son of Henry and Julie (Dufour) Charette. He grew up in Fort Kent attending local schools, and later served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a mechanic for several years, mostly with Freeman Motors, where he was employed for 35 years. Leopold loved to play bingo, work on puzzles, play poker and listen to French Canadian country western music. His most enjoyable moments were when he was with his family enjoying each others company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeannine Charette of Presque Isle; two daughters, Leola Bouchard and her husband, Clovis, of St. Francis, New Brunswick, and Diane Doustou and her husband, Ron, of Presque Isle; a sister, Leona Bard of Broadbook, Conn.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Dana, in May 2009; as well as several brothers and sisters.
A committal with military honors will take place at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. (Bangor Daily News 4/23/2010)
