Sammy Southern was born on Jan. 27, 1927 in Kinta, Oklahoma to Charlie H. Southern and
Bessie (Wood) Southern. He passed from this life on Wed., April 21, 2010 in Cushing, Oklahoma having reached the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 24 days.
Sammy married Delores E. (Perrine) Southern on Jan. 1, 1950 in Skedee, Oklahoma and they moved to Pawnee, Oklahoma from Skedee, Oklahoma in 1997. He was a member of the Pawnee First Baptist Church, and lead music at Blackburn Baptist Church for 38 years. He also lead music at Morrison, Yale, and Terlton Churches. He was a Rural Mail Carrier, and loved farming. He was a Veteran of World War II.
Sammy is survived by his loving wife, Delores Southern
of the home; his children:Sheryl Adams and her husband,Eddie; Dennis Southern and his wife, Jody;
Perry Southern and his wife, Carol, Terry Southern and his wife, Sharon, all of Pawnee; grandchildren: Ryan Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio,
Joe and Aubree Southern of Bixby, Oklahoma, Craig and
Dawn Adams of Bixby, Oklahoma, Amy and Sammy Southern
of Pawnee, Jason and Tasha Southern of Glencoe, Oklahoma,
Darrin Adams of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Barry and Alisha
Southern of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Monica Southern
of Pawnee; great-grandchildren: Gavin Southern, Grayce
Southern, Baylee Soutter, Allee Jo Southern, Kylena Orange, Brett Moore, Courtni Moore; two great-grandchildren due in June; his sister, Thelma Lee Baucom, Morrison, Oklahoma;
brother, Bill Southern, Fairfax, Oklahoma; plus numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives,and friends who will dearly miss him.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bessie Southern; sisters,
Gladys McCray, Ernestine Van Deventer,
Pat Hickson and Bernice Southern; brothers, Jimmy, Roy and Troy; brothers-in-law, Archie McCray, Alva McCray, Russell VanDeventer, Bailey Hickson,and Carl Baucom.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Sat., April 24, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, Pawnee, Oklahoma with Rev. Dale Gowdy and Rev. Mike Weaver officiating. Interment followed at Skedee Cemetery, Skedee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
