He worked as a fisherman and married Lucy Bannister at St Peter and St Paul Church, Milton, on 8th March 1836, he must have been illiterate, as he leaves only an "x" as his mark in the church records. They had eight children, Richard,1830?, Sarah, 1836, John, 1838, James, 1840, Mary, 1843, Edward, 1846, Mary, 1850 and Tomas, 1853.
At the time of the first National Census in 1841 he was living in Stone Mile, Northfleet, but by the 1851 census had moved to The Alley, Northfleet.
He died aged forty-six in 1856 and was buried in St Botolph's Churhyard, Northfleet. His grave is unmarked.
