Clarissa May Meyer, 88, of Shelocta, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at her residence. She was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County, the daughter of Frank R. and Edna Pearl (Kough) Cessna. Clarissa was a resident of the area her entire life, living until 1940 in Plumcreek Township, and then living the rest of her life in South Bend Township. She attended McKee School during her childhood and was a member of Mt. Union Lutheran Church. Clarissa enjoyed quilting, but working in her vegetable garden was her favorite pastime. She loved being outside and caring for her garden, and family and friends will always remember her smile and wave as they drove by while she gardened. Clarissa was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her loving and caring nature will be greatly missed. Her memory will be carried on with love by her sons, Raymond O. Meyer and wife, Betty Jean and James C. Meyer and wife, Sandy, all of Shelocta; daughters, Iva Jean Starks and husband, Richard, and Marie Jefferis, all of Shelocta; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mildred E. Albanese and husband, Frank, of Baltimore, Md., L. June Carr, of Baltimore, Md., and L. Mary Rose, of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 46 years, J. Oscar Meyer, who passed away May 31, 1990; two sons, Howard Paul Meyer and Lyle Eugene Meyer; seven brothers, Clyde R., Kenneth, Virgil A., Miles Keith, Charles H., William Ward and J. Merle Cessna; and two sisters, Velma L. Claypool and Rosie G. Elgin. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CLARK CHAPEL OF THE BAUER FUNERAL HOME, 238 S. Main St., Elderton. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Union Lutheran Church, 1051 Girty Road, Shelocta, with the Rev. Joyce Dix-Weiers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Union Lutheran Cemetery, Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Clarissa's honor to Mt. Union Lutheran Church, 1051 Girty Road, Shelocta, PA 15774.
