Melvin "Bingo" Lange, Jr., age 68, of Rhinelander died on December 7, 1995 at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born in Ableman (Rock Springs) Wisconsin on October 21, 1927 to Melvin and Lillian Lange. Mr. Lange attended schools in Baraboo, graduating from Baraboo High School in 1946. He then entered the United States Army in January of 1946 and served with the Army of Occupation in Germany until he was honorably discharged in March of 1947. He then returned to Sauk County where he served with the National Guard on a full time basis until 1953. He then was employed by Badger Ordinance Works in Baraboo, and then as a Highway Patrolman for Sauk County until November of 1955. He then became a Conservation Warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in the Waupun/Fond du Lac area for 17 years. In July of 1973 he was promoted to the District Recreational Safety Specialist and moved to Rhinelander in 1973 where he has lived since. He retired from that position in June of 1983. After his retirement he worked for the Rhinelander Flying Service for two years and was still working as a Bailiff for the Oneida County District Court at the time of his death. Both of these positions allowed him to be involved in his two main interests, flying and law enforcement. He married Mary Jean Baily on June 14, 1952 in Baraboo. He was a very active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Rhinelander, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Wisconsin Conservation Wardens Association, and was also a very ative volunteer of the Northwoods Ducks Unlimited Chaper and also taught hunter safety. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean
of Rhinelander; one son, Jeffrey (Konnie), one grandson, Adam Lange; four sisters, Arvona Boye, Marjorie Fish, Allene Gibbons and Mrs. Carol (Mick) McIntyre; four brothers, Stuart (Janette), Milton, Evan (Audrey) and Ted (Kathy); one sister-in-law, Donna Lange; 23 nieces and nephews; and two step-grandchildren, Scott and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kendall. Funeral services were held on December 12, 1995 at St Mark's Lutheran Church. As his life's work shows, he loved and cared for the outdoors.
