Funeral services for Washington LaFayette "Fate" Isbell, 87 year old retired Cookeville merchant who died
Thursday night in City Hospital after a short illness, were held Saturday afternoon at Whitson's Funeral Home by L. N. Moody, Minister of the Cookeville Church of Christ, and the Rev. Dow Ensor. Burial was in City Cemetery.
Mr. Isbell, a retired grocer, was widely known for his early morning walks of several miles even until a short time before his death. He was often seen many blocks away from his home on East Spring Street by families who were eating breakfast.
Mr. Isbell was a past master of Cookeville Lodge No. 266 of Free and Accepted Masons. He had been a member of the lodge for 58 years. There are only three other 50 year
members.
A native of Putnam County, Mr. Isbell was the son of the late James L. and Melvina Mitchell Isbell. His wife, Mrs. Gertrude McDonald Isbell, died several years ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Proffitt, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Mary Martin, Jr., of Bath Springs, TN; three grandchildren, and one great grandchild
