HERBERT H. HOLCROFT
---Funeral services for Herbert H. Holcroft, sixty-two, of Yarrow, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Mt. Carmel Church, conducted by Rev. F.P. Hanes. Interment was in Mt. Carmel cemetery.
---Mr. Holcroft died August 11 at Worland, Wyoming where he and his wife had gone to visit a son, Leo. He had been suffering for several years from high blood pressure and asthma.
---Mr. Holcroft was the son of Rev. Omer and Sarah Plumlee Holcroft and was born in Adair County, May 5, 1887. He was married in Kirksville December 5, 1908 to Stella Vandiver. Two daughters were born to them.
---He is survived by his wife; daughters, Mrs. A.C. (Wanda) Knapp of Montrose, Iowa and Mrs. Harley (Geneva) Burress of Yarrow; one brother, Owen of Gifford; four sisters, Mrs. Irvin (Caroline) Easley of Gifford, Mrs. Ben (Sadie) Burress of Novinger, Mrs. Clifton (Goldie) Gray of Des Moines and Mrs. Amos (Osa) Walker of La Plata; two grandchildren, Randolph Knapp and Carolyn Burress.
---He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
---Mr. Holcroft was a member of the Board of Directors of Adair Conny Mutual Insurance and also a member of the Board of Directors of Chariton River Drainage District. He had lived on a farm near Yarrow for the past forty years.
--------------------------------------------
In his obit it says he was visiting his son, Leo. My mother said he was visiting them, Leo and Claire Hollcroft, but Leo is his nephew. Leo is Samuel Tilden's son. He did die while visiting them. It seems that, considering his poor health, he asked the doctor if he could go to Wyoming and the doctor said yes after he looked at the map. However, while they were in Buffalo, he and Stella decided to go to Worland. To go there, he had to travel over the Big Horn Mountains. They were assuming that the elevation was too much for him. Stella had told my mother that Herb had an enlarged heart....she didn't know how accurate that was. At the time I was about a year old. We moved right after that.
