Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, Thurs. Jan. 20, 1944, p. 20:1. Joseph Abler, 72, lifelong resident of Mt. Calvary, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, after having been in ill health about a year. Born Dec. 8, 1871, a son of Nick and Katharine Abler, he was married Nov. 16, 1897, at Johnsburg to Rosina Casper, who died Aug. 10, 1934. Mr. Abler was a member of the men's choir of Holy Cross church at Mt. Calvary for more than 50 years and belonged to the Holy Name society of the parish. Surviving are seven children, Albert and Raymond of this city, Mrs. Math Diedrich of St. Cloud, Mrs. Leo Steffen of St. Joe, Mrs. Alex Lefeber of Dotyville, Gregor of Mt. Calvary, Pvt. Clemens of Fort Custer, Michigan, two brothers and a sister, Mrs. John Keongis and Jacob Abler of Mt. Calvary, and Michael Abler of St. Cloud and 16 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Mannenbach funeral home and at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross church, Mt. Calvary. The Rev. Jude Thomas will officiate. The body will lie in state after 5 p.m. today.
