Gertrude (Gertie) Kowalski, age 73, formerly of 908 S. 23rd St., Manitowoc, died
Sunday, October 26, 1997, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 1997, at the
Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Camillus
Janas O.F.M. with burial to follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Gertrude Hein was born July 10, 1924, in Manitowoc, daughter of the
late Philip and Elizabeth (Elsie) Trost Hein. On June 25, 1947, she married Vernon
Kowalski in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death November 15, 1993. Gertie was
employed at Aitken Reed Company of Manitowoc, retiring in 1986. She was a member of
the St. Andrew Congregation, St. Therese Society and served as a volunteer at Peter's
Pantry since 1988.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Lona Kowalski, Two Rivers; a
daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Tom Bushman, Two Rivers; four grandchildren, Erik
and Jennifer Kowalski, Kurt and Nicholas Bushman; four brothers and sisters-in-law,
Francis and Dorothy Hein, Bernard and Helen Hein, Richard and Lucille Hein, Raymond
and Onie Hein, all of Manitowoc; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dorothy and
Howard Schmitz, Manitowoc, Anna Mae and Louis Cerkas, Manitowoc, Martha Linsmeir,
Cato; a brother-in-law, Francis Linsmeir, Cato; and a sister-in-law, Clara Waier,
Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, John and Paul Hein; a sister, Marie Linsmeir; and
a brother-in-law, Clem Linsmeir.
Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday where
a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. by Father Cam.
