Carrie Elvera Carlson, daughter of the late Noak and Olga (Johnson) Bengston, was born October 27, 1914 in Kittson County, Minnesota. She attended country school near Kennedy, Minnesota. On January 2, 1933, she married Arthur William Carlson at the Salem Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Stephen, Minnesota. They were members of the Salem Lutheran Church and ELCA of rural Stephen for many years. Carrie and Arthur lived and farmed near Stephen. It was here that they raised their six children - three girls and three boys. In 1968, they retired and moved to Stephen and became members of First Lutheran Church.

She is survived by three daughters: Ardyce (Gary) Whalen; Marlys (Jack) Shearman and Inez (Truman) Spangrud all of Tucson, AZ, three sons; Wayne (Carol) of Tucson, AZ; John (Lana) of Circle Pines, MN and Charles (Sharon) of Lake Oswego, OR and nineteen grandchildren and their families. Also surviving her are one sister, Florenc Clark of Williston, ND and three brothers, Henry and Harry Bengston, both of Karlstad, MN and Larry Bengston of Sheperd, MT.

Arthur Carlson, her husband, preceded her in death. He passed away on April 20, 1997. Other family members preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters, Lily, who died in infancy, Blanche Carlson and Lillian Englund.

Private family services will be held at the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, MN.

Interment in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Stephen, MN.
