He was born Sept. 11, 1882 in Johnsburg, the son of the late Peter and Margie Griffan Schmitz. He married the former Pauline Dorn at Johnsburg. She died in December 1918. He married the former Catherine Raddatz, July 6, 1921 at St. Anne Catholic Church, St. Anna. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Russell until retiring in 1945, when they moved to Kiel He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and its Holy Name society.
Mr. Schmitz is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Lester (Lorraine) Platz, Kiel; Mrs. Keith (Alfrieda) Waterman, Sheboygan Falls; Mrs. Milton (Ramona) Seraphine, Lannon; Mrs. Elroy (Rose) Arndt and Mrs. Arno (Kathleen) Adams, both of R. 2, Elkhart lake; a stepson, Leon Raddatz, Sheboygan; a brother, Louis, Wisconsin Rapids; 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter and an infant son.
Funeral services will be at Ss. Peter and Paul church, the Rev. George Kiefer celebrant. Burial will be in St. Anne Cemetery, in St. Anna.
