Charles was the youngest son of Joshua Jenkins and Cerrene Elder. Charley ( as he was called) had run his father's farm from 1894 until 1914 when his father Joshua died. He then married widow Alice Mae (Conner) Adams on 19 December 1914 at Marion County, Iowa and lived in Knoxville until his death in 1951 where he farmed.
