Thomas was the son of Joshua Jenkins and Cerrene Elder. He married Nancy Alice Scott daughter of John and Phoebe Scott 17 February 1878 at Marion County, Iowa. They had 3 sons Judson Joshua, John Clarence (died in infancy) and Ivyl Eldon (died in WWI at Mihiel, France) and 4 daughters Clella Louise, Anna Pauline married Luther Nickell), Rena Rebecca and Esther Elizabeth married Ned Short Newton.

Thomas moved from IA to MO first living in Madison from 1906 to 1914 and then in 1920 to Moberly, Randolph County, MO where he died of old age and a cold at his daughter cella's home 701 Sinnock Ave. He was buried in Oakland cemetery in Moberly.
