Peter D. Boyer, a well known citizen of Cornwall, died at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday evening from the effects of a stroke of paralysis sustained eleven months ago. He was aged 73 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Deceased belonged to the Episcopal Church and was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the Seventeeth Pennsylvania Calvalry.
He is survived by his widow, Mary C. Boyer, and the following children: Mrs. S. M. Scott, Annville; Mrs. H. J. Leightner, Annville; William, Cornwall: Peter, Samuel and Clayton, at home. Two brothers; Daniel of Waldeck and John of Cornwall, also survive.

In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he also appears in the 1863 draft registration.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of nineteen in Lancaster October 16, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg October 19 as a private with Co. C, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry (162nd Pennsylvania). On June 17, 1865, as part of a war-end consolidation, he transferred to Co. C, 2nd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry, and honorably discharged with his company August 7, 1865.
