John was the son of Carl Wahler and Elizabeth Kippis. On 27 Apr 1883 the family arrived in New York City on board the passenger ship Hohenstaufen. On 02 Oct 1897 John married Mary Gutmann and they had seven children: Hudson, Catherine, Louise, Margaret, Lydia, Ruth and Lenora. At the time of his death he was a packer for the Belknap Hardware Company. John died of chronic myocarditis at his home, 1657 Gallagher Street, at the age of 49.
