Thomas Leek Dead
Thomas Leek was born in Mammouth Shire, England, February 27, 1840, and died in Great Bend, Kansas, October 8, 1920, age 80 years, 7 months and 12 days.
He was one of a family of six children, two of whom are still living, namely, John Leek of Aledo, IL, and Daniel Jones, of Niles, OH.
Mr Leek's father died when he was 17 years old and in company with his mother he came to the United states in June 1859 locating in Niles, OH, later, he moved to Newcastle, PA, where he was united in marriage to Rachel Lewis, August 4, 1864.
To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls. Four of the children died in infancy. Two following are still living, Mrs D E Howard of Emporia, Kansas, Mrs P W Deets of Garfield, Kansas, Mrs F M Lorimor of Dodge City, Frank and Starr Leek of Great Bend, Kansas.
Mr Leek moved from Ohio to Mercer County, IL, in 1868 and there he came to Barton county, Kansas in 1886 where has since resided.
He was a kind hearted husband and father, an honest and upright man, a firm believer in the Golden Rule, "Whatsoever ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them.,"
His voice is stilled, His companions will miss him, but his influence will go on telling its story on value and sterling truth.
The funeral services will be held in the Great Bend Methodist church on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
