Alden is the son of John Thomas Benson and Eliza "Jennie" Johnson. He was a fruit broker in Wyoming, Delaware (he bought fruit from farmers and sold it to grocers). He married Amanda Scott (born 1887 in Leipsic, Delaware) about 1900 (no exact date yet). They had three children: Dorothy Benson (born 1904), John Thomas Benson (born 1907), and Kenneth Benson (born 1911).
Dorothy Benson first married Lindsey Elmer McVey in 1924. They were divorced in the late 1930's. Dorothy later married Frank H. Searles, Jr. of Bear, Delaware, in 1945.
John T. Benson (named for his grandfather) married Ella, and died 17 Dec 1952.
Kenneth Benson died as an infant and is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

"Leipsic, Feb. 26 - (Special) - Funeral services for Alden J. Benson, 71, who died Sunday in the Delaware Hospital, Wilmington, will be held from the Torbert Funeral Home, Dover, tomorrow at 11 AM with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight.
Mr. Benson, a farmer and painter, is survived by his wife, Amanda Scott Benson, Leipsic; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Searles, Bear; a son, John T. Benson, Dover; a brother, Howard Benson, Westfield, NJ; a sister, Mrs. Richard Stevenson, Towson, MD; and 2 grandchildren, Miss Lois McVey and Mrs. Franklin Carey, Dover."
