OBITUARY

Charles H. Burris was born in Indiana February 9. He departed this life July 5, aged 71 years, 4 months and 26 days. August 15, 1862, at the age of 18, he enlisted as a volunteer defender of his country in the 79th Regiment, Company D, Indiana, serving as a faithful soldier until he was discharged June 11, 1865. At the close of the war, he moved to Kansas, where he resided until death called him. Many comrades preceded him to that great roll-call, but yet he was spared many happy years on earth.

In 1867 he was married to Sarah F. Newman. To this union was born six children--three girls and three boys. Flora VanWinkle, Maude Davis, Minnie Hamilton, Jess, Ezra and Charles, the last of whom died in infancy.

This union was blighted by the death of the wife and mother, December 24, 1884. In 1887 he was married to Freelove A. Curry. This union was gladdened by one son, Audrie, but the little one died in infancy. There survives him, his wife, two sons, two daughters, one brother, and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock, Wednesday morning and were conducted by Rev. Robert Brown. Interment was made in Burris Cemetery.-- Obituary provided by Becky Doan
