---When mother Baity fell asleep on Thursday, March 20, at the home of her son Herbert, La Plata lost her oldest native citizen whose whole life had been spent here.
---She was born September 3, 1842 and died at the age of seventy-six and a half years.
---In her girlhood she made profession of faith in Christ and went into the Baptist Church. Later she united with the Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member until the time of her death. The church never had a better friend. Long after her hearing was impaired, which made it impossible for her to hear the sermon, she continued to sit in the pew. Nor did she ever lose the spirit of her youth which made her the sympathetic friend of the young. She has been in failing health for several years and a sufferer all the time but no amount of suffering could destroy her courage and her faith.
---She was married in 1859 to W.D. Baity. To them were born eleven children, ten of whom are still living, Mrs. W.B. Bragg, La Plata, George P. Baity, Kansas City, John E. Baity, La Plata, Mrs. N.L. Vanderlip, Davis, Iowa, James L. Baity, Washington, D.C., Mrs. Emmitt Johnson, Saratoga, Wyoming, Herbert Baity, La Plata, Frank M. Baity, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mrs. R.R. Doneghy, Kansas City, Harry Baity with the Army of Occupation, Dierdorf, Germany.
---Funeral services were conducted from the home by her pastor, after which the body was laid to rest in the La Plata cemetery.
