Mrs. Ruth Hawkins Woolsey died at about ten o'clock on Saturday evening at the residence of her son Lewis H. Woolsey, in this village. Several months ago she fell and broke her hip, which could not be reset in so old a person. Since that time she had been entirely helpless and for several days before her death had failed rapidly. Mrs. Woolsey came with her husband to New Paltz about sixty years ago and located on the farm south of the village now owned by their son Lewis H. Woolsey. On this farm they lived for about thirty years and then moved to this village. Mr. Woolsey has been dead about sixteen years. There are four children surviving, Edmund E. who lives in Nebraska, Ann Amelia wife of Hon. Jacob LeFever, Lewis H. who resides in this village and George who has his home in New York.
Mrs. Woolsey was greatly esteemed by all, a lady of excellent sense and judgment, noted for industry and good management in the affairs of the household, a consistent member of the church. No one in the place was more respected.
The funeral was held on Monday at the residence of Lewis H. Woolsey. Rev. Dr. Ogge in his discourse alluded specially to the influence of a good mother, such as the deceased had been. Noticeable among the beautiful floral offerings were those of the grandchildren, Mrs. Dr. Poucher of Poughkeepsie and Floyd E. Woolsey of New York.
