Gilbertville Man Dies of Injuries Suffered in Fall
Gilbertville, Ia. - Frank J. Franta, 68, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis hospital at Waterloo of complications, and internal injuries suffered in a fall at his home here two weeks ago.
He was born in 1878 at West Newton, Minn., the son of John and Mary Franta, and came to Iowa in 1904.
On June 29, 1904, he married Margaret Nie at Gilbertville. The couple lived a year at Stacyville and Meyer, Ia., then returned to Gilbertville, and Mr. Franta operated a general store here for five years, and later followed the trade of carpenter until his retirement about five years ago.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic church here.
Surviving besides his widow, are a son, John J., proprietor of the Franta produce at Gilbertville; a sister, Mrs. Nick Sondag, Nicollet, Minn; and two step-sisters, Mrs. Margaret Sondag, Sykeston, N.D., and Mrs. Katherine Reiss, New Ulm, Minn.
A daughter, Adeline, died at the age of two.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception church, and requiem mass will be a 8 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Date of birth on gravestone listed as 1877 although 1900 census lists it as Feb 1878 and marriage license lists his age as 26 in 1904 and when his daughter Adeline was born in 1910 his age was listed as 32 making his date of birth 1878. The 1910, 1920, 1930 census also list his date of birth as 1878. Contrary to this information, his death certificate lists his date of birth as Oct 1877 and the 1940 census states 1877. If his older brother was born and died on May 28, 1877 Frank's date of birth would likely have been in 1878 and if he was 68 at the time of death his date of birth would also be 1878. No birth certificate was ever located.
