James Hartley
James Hartley was born in Liverpool, England, on January 5, 1836. At the age of fourteen he left his native land and came to the United States, settling in Tazewll County, Ill. On Feb 2, 1864, he was married to Elizabeth Beatty. To this union were born nine children, six boys and three girls, all of whom survive, except one daughter, Many, who died in 1912.
In 1871, Mr. Hartley with his family came to Carleton where he resided until four years ago when he moved here, making this his home until his death on November 1 at the age of 80 years, 9 months, 26 days.
Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large concourse of people who gathered to pay their last respects.
Surviving Mr. Hartley are the wife and children: Edwin Beatty, William Henry, James Warren, Mrs Anna Sayder, Carles, Emma Alfretta Sarratt.
