Funeral of Well Known Physician Will Be Held Friday Next
Dr Benjamin I. C. Buckland, one of Cayuga County's best know physicians died today at the home of his brother-in-law, Burton A. Wyckoff, in the town of Fleming.
Doctor Buckland was born near Weedsport, 61 yearn ago. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock at the late home. Burial will be in Fort Hill.
After attending the local schools of his vicinity, Doctor Buckland graduated from Monroe Collegiate Institute at Elbridge, Port Byron Academy, Cornell University, and in 1884 from the Medical College of the University of Michigan. He took high honors at the medical school.
He returned to Cayuga County and began the pratice of medicine and surgery in Fleming. In 1884, he married Miss Avis M. Wyckoff of that place. He was twice chosen president of the Cayuga County Medical Society. During the 100th anniversary of that society, held in connection with the Auburn Old Home Week, he gave the historical centennial address at a banquet held by the medical men at the Auburn City Club.
Doctor Buckland was also a Member of the Central New York Medical Society and of the Medical Society of the state of New York. During President Cleveland's last administration he appointed Doctor Buckland had one of the medical examiners on the United States Pension board. He also served as a medical examiner for several leading life insurance companies.
