It is not known as this time whether Nicholas Brost's mother name was Anne or Mathilde. The birth dates of the mother on the 2 census appear to be different. There is a Mathilda Brost buried in this same cemetery with a son Nick mentioned, but another memorial for her son Franz Brost 1868-1868 notes his parents John Brost and Mathilda Van Forst were married July 13, 1866 at St. Gregory, Meeme, Wisconsin, so it appears Nicholas, mother Anne died sometime between 1860-1866)

Nicolaus was born Jan. 24, 1857 in the Town of Meeme of John Brost and Anna Kasper. He died March 2, 1916 and is buried at Holy Trinity, School Hill, Town of Meeme. He died from "carcinoma of the bladder, one year".

Notes from Meeme:
Mr. Nick Brost, aged 59, years, died Thursday forenoon at his home. Mr. Brost hade been in poor health since last summer. He underwent an operation but it proved futile. Everything that medical science could do for his relief was done. The end was expected as he had been sinking gradually for a few weeks.
Mr. Brost was married to Helen Stein who survives him with seven children, four sons and three daughters. He was a kind husband and indulgent father. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of School Hill Branch. The funeral was held Monday at 9:30 am from the Holy Trinity Church. Rev. Kersten performed the last sad rites. The afflicted family have the sympathy of their many friends and neighbors. Peace to his soul.

Nicolaus Brost and Magdalena Stein were married Sept. 11, 1883 at St.
Wendel, Town of Meeme. There is some question as to if this marriage took place on Sept. 11, 1884. I believe the 1883 date is correct. That is
because the marriage record in the court house is placed with other records from 1883, with none showing for 1884 until later in the records.
