He was born April 24, 1917 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Leon and Alma (Olm) Laack.
He married Vi Kings on August 16, 1945 in Maple Grove. He and his family moved to Potter when he was 4 1/2 years old. Ruben worked with his father in the cheese making business until 1943 when he purchased the factory.
He and Vi operated Laacks Cheese Factory until 1987 when he sold the factory to Dan Ratajczak Sr. and still worked for them until retiring in 1993. He was the first Italian cheese producer in the area and won many awards in the county, region and state for his cheese making. The Laack name still lives on in Wisconsin cheese making.
Ruben was a member of Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Potter, the Brillion Lions Club for many years, the Potter Business Association, Chilton Eagles #1288, was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Cheesemakers, Association, and was a past president of Calumet County Cheesemakers. Association.
Survivors include his wife, Violet; one brother, Harry Laack of Wrightstown; three sisters, Ruth Cavanaugh of Manitowoc, Loretta Gotter of Manitowoc, Esther Trinanna of Cleveland,Ohio; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruben was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Ed Laack.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 8 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Potter. The Rev. Marc Axelrod was officiant. Burial was in the Potter Cemetery.
Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton served the family.
