Eugene Smith Taylor

Eugene S. Taylor was born at Oberlin, Ohio, January 15, 1854. He departed this life at his homestead in Eustis, October 8, 1917 at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 2 days.

When two years of age he came with his parents to Cass county, Nebr., living near where Weeping Water now is and at Civil Bend, Iowa until 17 years of age, when he moved to Red Oak, Iowa.

In January 1890 he came to Frontier county, Nebr., living on his farm south of Eustis until the spring of 1915, when he took up his residence in Eustis, where he resided at his time of death.

His health failed him a little more than two years ago and from that time he was confined to his home the most of the time.

Mr. Taylor was always interest in the progress of the community and was ever ready to lend his support to a worthy cause.

On September 5, 1878 he was married to Samantha R. Soward, and to this union were born eight children, one dying in infancy and the wife and mother departed this life April 23, 1893.

On December 5, 1904 he was married to Mrs. Lillian Tarman.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a devoted wife, her son John Tarman, for whom he had a very high regard, his children Claude L. of Arapahoe, Lloyd O., of Stockville, Elmer and Lester of Eustis, Mel E. of Twin Falls, Idaho, Edith Moody and Pinkie V. Horn of Ft. Stockton, Texas, his sisters Mary E. Doyle of Westboro, Mo., and Mattie J. Brownlee of Oval, Pa. and his brother, Bernard E. Taylor of Holyoke, Colo. and his many friends.

The funeral services were held at the Evangelical church Thursday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Rev. J. M. Runcie of Eddyville, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Dillow, officiating.

Interment in Eustis Cemetery.
