He was a lifetime resident of Olney, Texas.
He and Mozelle Surratt were married in Newcastle on 26 February 1938.
He attended St. Luke's Lutheran School near Olney.
Mr. Schlegel entered the US Navy in 1945. He trained at San Diego, California. He served in Guam and Korea. Mr. Schlegel was discharged in 1945.
Schlegel was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the VFW. He was a retired cattleman / farmer / oil field worker.
Survived by his wife; two sons - Jerry Schlegel of Amarillo and Jackie Schlegel of Capitan, NM; two daughters - Vicki Dillard of Iowa Park and Cathy Lawson of Burburnett; three brothers - Norbert Schlegel of Meridian, Martin Schlegel and Richard Schlegel, both of Olney; two sisters - Leah Philipp and Leola Seedig, both of Olney; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son - Bennie Schlegel.
