After ninety years of life, "Granny" Palmer, as she was lovingly known, has passed to her heavenly rest. She bade her loved ones farewell, and she said to her children that she was not afraid to die her parting counsel to her children was " Be good."
Elizabeth Ann Wright was born December 25, 1843, at Big Creek, Yalobusha, later Calhoun County, Mississippi.
She joined the Methodist Church at the age of ten years. She lived a Christan life, and the perfume of her many good deeds will linger as a benediction. She was married to Daniel Lee Palmer, November 30, 1865. He preceded her to Heaven, seven years ago. They moved to Texas January, 1885, to Center City, Mills County; after one year they moved to Normangee in 1886.
Left to mourn her going, are four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Kyle, Mrs. Marvin Hunt, Mrs. Tommie Ward, and Miss Lula Palmer; two sons, E. G.
and J. H. Palmer. And many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She passed away at home Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, after two months of suffering. Services were conducted at the Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. At her request, two of her former pastors, Rev. D. W. Gardner of Houston and Rev. W. A. Craven of Rosebud came and assisted Rev. D. C. Cummings and Rev. R. V. Holloman in the services.
Beautiful and touching were their tributes to the worthy life of Mrs. Palmer, and many tears fell in sorrow as they spoke of her lovely life. Procession to Hopewell followed where her frail body was lain to rest beside her beloved companion.
J. M. Day Furniture Co. of Madisonville was in charge of the funeral ceremonies.
Pallbearers were her grandsons: Frank Wilson, Ralph Detweiler, Joe Grauman, Joel Kyle, Clarence Chambliss, Lee Palmer, Lamar Palmer, and Willard Brown.
May the bereaved ones who have the sympathy of many friends find comfort in the memory of her well lived life.
"Peace, wonderful peace coming down
from the Father above;
Peace, Peace, in fathomless billows
of His love.
