Elizabeth (Bailey) Smith was a daughter of John and Catherine (Emdy) Bailey. She married David R. Smith in Hendricks County, Indiana on Mar. 4, 1869. They had no children but adopted Lula Pilcher as a daughter as shown in the 1880 Census when Lula was age 6.

Lizton - Elizabeth (Bailey) Smith, oldest child of John and Catherine Bailey, was born in Shelby county, Indiana, April 19, 1849, and departed this life April 25, 1928, at the age of 79 years and six days. On March 4, 1869, she was united in marriage to David R. Smith, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1915. In October 1894, she became a member of the Rebekah lodge at Pittsboro, of which order she was a very faithful member. She was a life long member of the United Brethren church of St. Paul, Ind. She leaves to mourn her departure three brothers, Marion, George and Edgar Bailey of Lizton; five sisters, Eva Ann Campbell of Pimento; Mary M. Dale, of Pittsboro; Susan E. Hall and Nettie Hedge, of Lizton; Nora Lee, of Schneider, and thirty-seven nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
