Agnes Sturdevant was born October 21, 1901 at Brighton, Colorado, the daughter of Edward N. and Tellisty M. (Kirk) French. A year later the family loaded their belongings in a stock car and left for Alberta, Candada, where her father homesteaded. Agnes received her education in a little country school. After the 8th grade, she clerked in a general store which housed the post office. She was assistant postmistress.

In 1918, Agnes met Marinus H. Rasmussen and they were married on February 26, 1920. They had three children, Henry, Earle and Dorothy. In the Fall of 1925, the moved to Moxee City, Washington, where Mr. Rasmussen worked on a ranch. Agnes was preceeded in death by her husband, Marinus, on May 7, 1926, after he was fatally injured while unloading machinery. Following her husband's death, Agnes and the children moved to Yakima, Washington.

In June of 1942, Agnes married Benjamin Barker in Yakima, Washington and they ahd one son, Lyle. In 1947 they moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community. Agnes was preceeded in death by her husband, Ben, on March 8, 1961, after eighteen years of marriage.

On October 8, 1965, Agnes married Herbert Sturdevant in Amboy, Washington. Following their marriage they made their home in Vernonia. Herb passed away on November 2, 1977. Following her husband's death, Agnes lived in Vernonia until 1995 when she moved to the Forest View Care Center (now known as Marquis Care) in Forest Grove.

Agnes worked in a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. While living in the Yakima area, she worked in the fruit orchards and warehouses. After moving to Vernonia, she worked at the variety store and as a custodian for Crown Zellerback for fifteen years.

She had been a member of the Assembly of God Church since 1947. Agnes always felt blessed even through the difficult times. Agnes enjoyed rock hounding, cutting and polishing agates and had even made tables, clocks and jewelry. She enjoyed flowers, yardwork and needlework.

Agnes was also precede in death by her parents; five sisters; four brothers; and a son, Henry E. Rasmussen in 1974.

Agnes died July 25, 2000 at the Marquis Care at Forest Grove. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Earle J. and Janina Rasmussen of Yakima, Washington; and Lyle E. and Carolyn Barker of Vernonia; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy A. and Dale Watkins of Norwalk, California; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Arlene French of Selah, Washington; a sister Dorethea Evans of Bend; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a numerous nieces and nephews.
