Pauline Wheeler 90,Carthage, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage.
Pauline was born Feb.18, 1914, in Arma, Kan., to
Elmer A. Wheeler and Allie Green Wheeler. She attended
Carthage Senior High School and was a seamstress for Smith
Brothers Manufacturing for 40 years retiring in 1976.
She was a past president of BPW with the distinction
of being named "Woman of the Year" in 1971, Pythian Sisters, Chapter 63 and a member of the First Baptist Church and Auditorium Sunday school Class.

Pauline went to work at an early age to help care
for her ailing mother and father. Upon her father's
death she continued to work and care for her
mother until her death in 1968. She continually helped
her sisters raise their families by providing dance
and music lessons, sewing costumes, prom dresses,
wedding dresses and school clothes.

Education was important to Pauline and in the
early 1970's she returned to school, attending night
classes in order to receive her GED.

During her career with Smith Brothers she was a union representative with extensive travel over the
United States. She loved to travel and had fond
memories of her visits with her nieces and nephews
that lived out of town.

After her retirement she enjoyed caring for the
elderly. Survivors include nieces, Doris Towers and Chris
Baugh, both of Carthage, Bobbie Swingle, Baytown,Texas, Carole Roper, Oronogo, and Janet Frey,Sealy, Texas; nephews,Doyle Rutherford,Carthage, Richard Neeley,
Ft. Worth, Texas, Terry Stehenson, Williamsburg,Va., Jim Todd, Spring Branch, Texas and Tom Todd, Parkland, Fla.; and many great-, great-great and Great-great-great-nieces
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a nephew, Gene Hixson; and four sisters, Marie Hixson, Grace Neeley, Anita Todd and Mabel Stephenson.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Services will be held at
10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Ron Fraklin will officiate.

Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church Adult V SS Class or the American Cancer Society
