William J. Bennett
Funeral services for William Johnnie Bennett, 78, of 121 Quarry St, will be held at 1 p. m. friday in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Elder Rockford Cochran in charge. Burial will follow in the Goodson Cemetery at Abraham.
Bennett was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital at 8 p. m. Tuesday. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.
Born at Pear, Oct. 28, 1892, he was the son of the late Marion and Mary Vance Bennett..
He was a member of the Beckley Hillcrest Regular Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement in 1955, he was a former mail carrier employed with the U.S. Postal Department.
Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Reba Brogan Bennett in July, 1962, a daughter, Marcella, and a son, Bluford.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Margaret) Radford, Beckley; five sons, Robert W., Chenango Bridge, N. Y., Russell, Charlton Heights, Howard, Beckley, Stephen and Ronald, both of Cleveland, Ohio; a siater, Mrs. Irene Kincaid, Winston-Salem, N.C., and two brothers, Woodrow, Beckley, and Cecil of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body will remain at the mortuary where friends may call after 6 p. m.
