Pete was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Phillipine Insurrection. He farmed, trapped, logged, and fished. He kept livestock, beehives, and a fishpond. He enjoyed & collected taxidermy, and had a small cabin below his main house where he kept and displayed his handiwork, including furniture. Carpentry was one of his many skills. A strong and agile man, he seemed to always be busy, and able to entertain all those around him at the same time; he was quite the character, a real "barrel of fun".
He worked as a timberman for the coal mines.
He listed his residence as Albright in 1942, on his draft registration, April 27th, at Local Board 1, of Preston county. He was employed then at the Fairmont FHA Project of Morgantown.

There is discrepancy in the birth date on the stone, and the one on the funeral home card. The funeral home card, and also the Preston county birth register, give the birthdate as 27 Oct. 1889.
