SERVICES HELD FOR McCURTAIN SOLDIER
PVT. LUTHER CALDWELL DIED IN LINE OF DUTY

Funeral services for Pvt. Luther Caldwell, 27, who died in line of duty as a soldier, were held Sunday at De Queen, Ark., with Rev. J. A. Cockran officiating.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Caldwell, he was inducted in the service April 14. He was stationed at Carliss, Nevada, and was a member of Company G. CDACZ, of the Fifty-third division.

While returning to camp from guard duty March 1, he was injued in a truck accident and died March 2. The accident is now being investigated by military officials.

Tne men of company G gave his body a military escort to the train, and Pvt. First Class Jake Macon accompanied the body from camp until it was interred at the Redmen cemetery.

"He was the best liked boy in camp and one of the best soldiers," Pvt. Macon said Sunday.

A native of Goodwater, he had lived in the vicinity of De Queen for the past four years and was well liked bu all who knew him. He was an attendant of the Oak Grove Baptist church.

He is survived by his wife, and two step-children, Mildred and Dale Best; and 11 brothers and sisters, Mrs. Dick Jackson, and Rufus Caldwell, Goodwater, Mrs. Rubin Farley, Idabel, Mrs. Elbert Munn, Broken Bow, Mrs. Jim Hoenbeck, and Otho, Don, Earl, Garland, Henry and Ida Caldwell, all of De Queen.

A flag covered the body until it started to lower into the grave. The flag was presented to the widow.

Bearers were Pvt. Jake Macon, David McKinney, Lowell McKinney, Robert Grubb, Longacker and Charlie Rink. The Wright Sisters quartet sang at the services.

The Wilkerson funeral home, De Queen, was in charge of the services.
