Adelphia Doyle was born in Pendleton, SC, daughter of Maj. Simon R. Doyle (b.1/20/1768, Fairfax, VA, d.12/28/1842, White Co., TN; a son of James B. and Elizabeth (?) Doyle of Fairfax Co., VA) and Elizabeth (Sargent) (b.9/19/1777, Caswell, NC, d.8/24/1836, White Co., TN; daughter of Joseph Sargent and Ruth (Ransom) of Caswell, NC). Simon and Elizabeth Doyle were among the early settlers of White County, TN.
In 1818 in White County, TN Adelphia married JOHN S. WHITE, Jr. They resided in River Hill, White County, TN from 1820-1880, moving to Lampasas, TX in the fall of 1880, to reside with their son-in-law and daughter, Major Martin White and Mary (White).
With the marriage of their daughter Mary to Major Martin White, two separate lines of White families merged, and coincidentally both Mary and Major Martin White's fathers were named John S. White.
