J.S. WHITE
BORN
Mar. 4, 1791
DIED
Aug. 27, 1884

John S. White was born in VA, a son of John White and Martha Woodson (Phillips) of VA. He married ADELPHIA "Delpha" (DOYLE) in 1818 in White Co., TN. (NOTE: John and Martha (Phillips) White are both buried at Old Union Cemetery, White Co., TN.)

John and Adelphia moved from White County, TN to Lampasas, TX in the fall of 1880 to reside with their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Maj. Martin White. With their union, two separate White lines merged. Mary and Martin White had children, including a daughter Adelphia Florence White who married John Markward of Lampasas.

John was a blacksmith in White County, TN, and a stone mason. After he moved to Lampasas in 1880, he contributed to the stone work done for the limestone house built for his grand-daughter, Adelphia White and her husband John Markward. Their property was on the hill below Adelphia's parents' property, and the master carpenter/builder was Theodore Bauerfeind, commissioned by John Markward.

"Theo" was a fellow Civil War veteran and friend of Maj. Martin White back in White Co., TN, and moved to Lampasas, TX along with his family at the time the White's did.

John S. White was the first to be interred in this Markward-White family cemetery in Lampasas, TX.

(NOTE: with the marriage of Maj. Martin White and Mary (White) White, two separate White families merged and coincidentally both Maj. Martin's father AND his father-in-law were named John S. White. Martin's father-in-law had a first-born son he named Simon Doyle White, which makes it possible that his middle name, and perhaps his own father's first name, was Simon. Adelphia and John Markward had a son they named Solan Lee Markward, which makes it possible that the middle name of Adelphia's maternal grandfather, John S. White (Mary (White) White's father) could have been Solan as that name does not appear within the Markward lineage.)

(Biographical material provided by Annette (Langley) Markward, wife of John Markward, great grandson of John and Adelphia (White) Markward of Lampasas.)
