MARY WHITE
1840 - 1921

Mary White was a daughter of John S. and Adelphia (Doyle) White. She grew up in River Hill, White County, TN. Her siblings were: Simon Doyle White (1818-1888) (FAG#30092253); Martha (White) Keathley (1821-1860) (FAG#67523671); Milton R. White (1824-1880); Elizabeth "Eliza" White (1825-1870); Dicie (White) Wallace (1826-1912) (FAG#30174713); Lt. John A White (1832-1870); Daniel M. White (1834-?); Woodson Phillips White (1837-1867); Sarah E. (White) Clark (1838-1916) (FAG#70367619); Louisa "Eliza" (White) McManus (1841-1934) (FAG#38288525); Garrett Merritt White (1843-?); and Susannah O. "Susan" (White) Clark (1846-1887) (FAG#65039815), who married John Stewart Clark (1842-1916) (FAG#67129894) and after Susan's death widow John married Susan's sister Sarah E. (White) who raised their children.

According to the White Family bible, on August 16, 1857 in White Co., TN she married Maj. MARTIN WHITE, son of John S. White and Elizabeth (Barrier) of DeKalb, AL. It also states that her birth date was June 4, 1830, ten years earlier than the date of her cemetery monument.

With this marriage, two separate lines of Whites merged, and coincidentally both Mary and Martin's fathers were named John S. White.

With the Civil War behind them, in 1871 Mary, Martin and their family arrived to a new life in Lampasas, TX. After the Major's death, Mary resided with their son, Judge Martin White and family in Temple, Bell Co., TX.

The children of Martin and Mary (White) White are listed on her husband Martin's memorial page.
